Welcome, racers, to the 6th annual Tour de Tuscaloosa presented by VeloCity Pro Cycle. It’s hard to believe that it has been six years since we began this race! I guess time flies when you’re on a bike! Thank you all for deciding to participate in the TdT this year. We continually strive to improve the race based upon the feedback we receive from you. We have made a couple of changes this year. First off, the City of Tuscaloosa Criteriums will occur earlier in the day. We want a night crit but we haven’t been able to light the course well enough. We will work on a solution for that for future races. Also, we have moved the finish line for the Lake Lurleen Road Race. The new finish line will be much safer and should be more competitive. We hope these changes will add to your experience while racing. Again, we welcome all feedback, so let us know after the races what you think of the changes. The Lake Lurleen Road Race is the Alabama State Championship! Each year this race grows exponentially and we are excited about what the future may hold. We have been able to increase the prize purse annually and we are happy to be able to offer a $18,000 purse this year. This would not be possible without our wonderful sponsors. I encourage all of you to thank them and visit them while you are in Tuscaloosa. For five years running now the TdT is a part of the Lance Armstrong Junior Cycling Series. We always look forward to the juniors fields and are happy to boast about the wonderful turnout of young racers we get! Finally, I would like to encourage you all to bring your family to the races and to enjoy the Druid City Arts Festival, which will be set up on Government Plaza in downtown Tuscaloosa. There will be food vendors, children’s activities, art booths, and music to entertain you all afternoon. Again, thank you for participating in the Tour de Tuscaloosa and I hope you have a great weekend.
